Smaller packs and aggressive marketing can drive Convenience Foods range
Although the economic slow down resulted in a marginal dip in sales of convenience sector in the early stages of recession, no food companies have shut down operations or laid-off staff like the information technology sector.

With more and more couples going out for work, rise in income levels, changing food habits and lifestyles, the demand for ready-to-eat (RTE) or convenience food is growing fast. The consumer is also happy about the convenience that these foods offer along with competitive pricing, improved quality and trendier & better packaging.

Need to evolve high quality RTE food
Datamonitor estimates the convenience food retail sales market in India to be around Rs 250 billion in 2008 and is expected to reach Rs 360 billion by 2012 growing at a CAGR of 10%.

'Food safety and quality' awareness is picking up fast in India. As a conscious buyer nobody would like to buy a food product- say fried chips that has passed its 'Best Before' date fearing that the product might have become rancid or stale.
